Review of Airwork and Maneuvers

Flight PlayBack allows post-flight review of airwork and maneuvers. Your flight can be played back in 2D ground track view or a 3D view, color coded for any parameter, while simultaneously showing flight instruments as they appeared in flight. You control the play back speed, pause and rewind with simple VCR-like controls.

Example: Pylon Racing

Every turn of every lap can be analyzed in detail after a practice or race. Zoom in as necessary. PlayBack the flight and pause at any time to show the instruments and data at that point. Ask yourself...

  • Did I fly the race the way I wanted?

  • Did I get the G-load I wanted, where I wanted it, in each turn?

  • Can this help me find a faster way around the course?

In the example below, the 2D ground track has been color coded for G-load and the display has been zoomed in to show just the portion of the flight  around the pylons. The blue segments indicate 1 G flight and the amber and red show the G-load in the turns.

Notice VCR-like buttons to control PlayBack and drop-down
box to select Color Code parameter.

Example: VFR Pattern Work

Map portion of Flight PlayBack display

In this example the 2D ground track has been color coded for Indicated Airspeed. The blue lines show the taxi route to and from the runway (very low IAS), the initial departure to the northwest shows as yellow (climb speed) and the level off on course to the southwest shows as red (Cruise speed). Returning to the field later shows a stabilized approach speed as green on base and final.

Example: IFR Procedures

Instrument procedures can be depicted for review in the same manner as the VFR pattern work shown in the example above. No map or approach chart information is shown in this release of the software, but even without it, the ground track and flight instrument PlayBack clearly show the maneuver. Approaches, procedure turns and especially holding patterns depict very well and provide an interesting tool for debrief during training.
